Interested in dinosaurs? Don’t miss the Burke Museum Dino Day lecture this Friday at Kane Hall, where Dr. Philip Currie will discuss his worldwide search for dinosaur fossils聽 in order to聽learn how these amazingly diverse animals were able to dominate the earth’s landscape for over 130 million years. This lecture is free but is required.

On Saturday, February 26, community members are invited to attend the 14th annual , a rapid-fire academic competition where high school teams from across the state test their knowledge of science from 9:30 am 鈥 5 pm at the Fishery Sciences building. Did you know that 15 innocent people in Washington state have had their convictions overturned thanks to The Innocence Project Northwest (IPNW) Clinic , a program staffed by student and faculty volunteers from the 91探花School of Law? Front Porch Winter 2011

The Office of Regional & Community Affairs is excited to share with you the latest edition of Front Porch. Here are a few of the highlights:

Each week, hundreds of at-risk Seattle schoolchildren meet one-on-one with their 鈥淗usky Buddies鈥濃攖eacher candidates from the 91探花College of Education who are helping prepare them for success in school and life.

91探花student Joe Stout is helping children throughout our community smile more brightly by learning about and providing specialized pediatric dental care.

Daniel Winterbottom, 91探花landscape architecture professor, and his students, are creating 鈥渉ealing gardens鈥 at Seattle area health-care facilities to help ease the stress of critically ill people and their loved ones.

High School Mathematics Academy

The helps high-achieving high school juniors develop the math and problem-solving skills necessary to succeed in engineering and exposes students to engineering in practice. Open to all students, the Math Academy especially targets underrepresented minorities in engineering including African American, Latino, Native American, Pacific Islander and female students. Applications are being accepted for summer 2011 and are due by March聽2,聽2011.聽
