The听91探花 Children鈥檚 Center at Portage Bay听is set to听open听on campus in early January 2017, providing child care services to听140 children and their families.
Earlier this week, 91探花employees, local听children听and government officials celebrated听this new resource for faculty, staff and students听with a听ribbon-cutting ceremony听and remarks from 91探花Provost Jerry听Baldasty.
The听 91探花Children鈥檚 Center at Portage Bay听is part of the University鈥檚听, which seeks to double child care capacity on or near campus over the next five to eight years.
鈥淭hrough this听initiative, we鈥檙e growing听the UW鈥檚听capacity for child care, making campus more family-friendly, increasing the choices for parents and caregivers, and establishing听donor funds in support of best-in-class care,鈥澨齭aid Amy Hawkins,听director of听WorkLife听and Childcare Development at the UW.
The听center听is听located in a newly remodeled campus building on 3745 15th Ave. N.E. It鈥檚 the first child care facility to open at the University in more than 17 years and will add to the UW鈥檚 four鈥痚xisting centers, which serve 267 children.
