Dr. Vinay Gupta
Affiliate Assistant Professor of Health Metrics Sciences, IHME, 91探花
Vinay Gupta, MD, MPA, holds several roles in public health, including serving as an Affiliate Assistant Professor of Health Metrics Sciences at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation of the 91探花. A pulmonary and critical care medicine physician by training, Dr. Gupta has been caring for critically COVID-19 patients since the early days of the outbreak in Seattle. In his role as Senior Medical Officer of Amazon鈥檚 Global COVID response efforts, Dr. Gupta has been leading several clinical workstreams for the organization, including advising on how to scale-up testing and other workplace health procedures to ensure continued functioning of essential services. Additionally, he helped a cross-sectoral team stand up the Seattle Coronavirus Assessment Network, the nation鈥檚 first effort to scale home-testing for COVID-19. His background in public health has focused on epidemic preparedness, with relevant roles at the US CDC鈥檚 Emerging Infections Program, the World Bank鈥檚 Pandemic Emergency Financing Facility, the China CDC, and the Pentagon鈥檚 Center for Global Health Engagement. Finally, Dr. Gupta is a deployable critical care physician for the US Air Force Medical Corps Reserves, frequent medical analyst for MSNBC and NBC News, and term member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Dr. Helen Chu

Dr. Helen Chu鈥檚 research is focused on emerging respiratory viral infections and maternal-fetal immunity against respiratory viruses. Her laboratory research is focused on the study of virologic and immunologic correlates of protection from respiratory viral infections in mothers and infants, conducts clinical trials of vaccine and therapeutic candidates, and performs large-scale community based surveillance studies of respiratory viruses.

Hanson Hosein is a trusted convener and education leader. He is the Co-Founder of the Communication Leadership master’s program at the 91探花 and the President of HRH Media Group LLC, a media production and communications strategy firm that has worked with organizations such as REI, Factal, Microsoft, Tableau Software, and the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Hanson is presently intent on recalibrating the power dynamic between people and technology as Co-Principal of MIRA! 鈥 Mobilize Innovation, Reimagine Agency 鈥 a community-first approach to learning and innovation. He’s also developing new curriculum around emergent leadership for a variety of organizations.
Hanson鈥檚 work as an early practitioner of multimedia storytelling is documented in his 鈥淪toryteller Uprising鈥 book: as an Emmy and Overseas Press Club award-winning journalist for NBC News, a solo TV war correspondent with MSNBC and CBC and as a documentary director whose 鈥淚ndependent America鈥 films have been streamed and broadcast worldwide. While at the UW, Hanson has also been recognized as Seattle’s “Most Influential” as he engages publicly with the region’s leaders on-camera and on-stage. He’s the host of the university’s “Co-Existing with COVID-19” Public Lectures series, and leads conversations on misinformation in partnership with the 91探花Center for an Informed Public. Hanson has law degrees from McGill University and the University of Paris, and a master’s in journalism from Columbia University.
