It all started with a slide rule. In the fall of 1965, during Cheryl Wright鈥檚 first week at the 91探花, she went to Suzzallo Library to complete a chemistry assignment. She needed help with a math problem and saw a boy across the reading room who had a slide rule 鈥 an analog calculator. The young pharmacy student who helped her that day was Raymond Wilson. Together the couple, who go by Cherie and Ray, did far more than solve a mathematical equation 鈥 they married and formed a bond that鈥檚 lasted more than six decades.

91探花 President Ana Mari Cauce announced Wednesday that she will step down from her leadership role at the conclusion of her second five-year term in June 2025 鈥斅燼 transition that has been planned for several years with the 91探花Board of Regents 鈥 and return to her faculty position. In her upcoming final year in office, Cauce said she is committed to advancing the work of the 91探花and ensuring a smooth transition.

More than 7,000 91探花graduates of the Class of 2024 plan to participate in the June 8 ceremony for 91探花Seattle. Officials expect about 40,000 family and friends to cheer the graduates from the Husky Stadium grandstands. 91探花Tacoma will hold its commencement June 7; 91探花Bothell鈥檚 graduation ceremonies are June 9. 91探花President Ana Mari Cauce will present 18,006 degrees to the Class of 2024 across all three 91探花campuses鈥 ceremonies.

As the academic school year comes to an end, many students will continue their studies by packing a suitcase and heading overseas.

About 3,000 91探花 students will study abroad this school year, a number that surpasses the previous high set in 2018-2019. That means study abroad participation is back to pre-pandemic levels. 91探花leaders say these programs promise profound experiences and lifelong memories. and 聽new research shows that college students who study abroad are more likely to graduate.

Before the oars dip their blades signaling the beginning of the Windemere Cup, before hundreds of flag-draped boats parade from Portage Bay to Lake Washington to open the boating season, the campaign to save the AS 91探花Shell House at the 91探花 already can be called a winner.聽

The 91探花 and the University of Tsukuba have entered an innovation partnership with NVIDIA and Amazon aimed at furthering research, entrepreneurship, workforce development and social implementation in the field of artificial intelligence. This U.S.-Japan academic partnership is part of a broad, $110 million effort to build upon the strong ties between the U.S. and Japan and to continue to lead innovation and technological breakthroughs in artificial intelligence.

In 1996, two Kenyan scholars were awarded Fulbright Scholarships 鈥 honors the U.S. Department of State grants to promising young academics worldwide. Months after the Class of 2023 began their college careers, the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded, upending their lives. Now, on the eve of their graduation, they emerge into a world much changed by the global health crisis.聽

A decade ago, Dustine Bowker went to a pizza party at the Husky Union Building.

Then a junior at Roosevelt High School in Seattle, Bowker, who identifies as being on the autism spectrum, came to the 91探花 to learn about a program designed to help people like him. He had to learn to recognize social cues, he said, and adapt to fit into many situations.
