Noting the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, NASA has featured UW-led research by Faisal Hossain that uses satellite data to help farmers manage water more efficiently.

Using 30 years of satellite data, 91探花researchers discovered that within one year of the opening of a major dam in the Mekong River basin, downstream river temperatures during the dry season dropped by up to 3.6 degrees F (2 degrees C).

This fall the 91探花’s annual engineering lecture series will feature three 91探花engineers and scientists who are working across disciplines to manage the quality and quantity of the food we eat and grow.

Pakistan’s water managers are using NASA satellites to more effectively monitor groundwater supplies, thanks to a partnership with 91探花civil and environmental engineers. It’s part of a larger effort to use the vast amount of data and observations collected by Earth-orbiting satellites to better quality of life in developing countries.
