A barbecue buffet, pink sunset and reunions with friends provided the backdrop for this year鈥檚 Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity (OMA&D) Vice President鈥檚 Club Barbecue held Aug. 23.
The annual event was hosted by Vice President for Minority Affairs and Vice Provost for Diversity Sheila Edwards Lange at the home of Nelson, 鈥84, and Suzanne Del Rio, who shared their deck and lake view with OMA&D鈥檚 closest circle of supporters. The evening鈥檚 festivities honored annual donors, corporations and community partners who support OMA&D programs.
Guests, many of whom were dressed in purple and gold, included newly appointed 91探花Regent Rogelio Riojas, 鈥73, 鈥75, 鈥77, former 91探花President Bill Gerberding, and representatives from Wells Fargo, Boeing, Enterprise, and University Book Store.聽 Several guests were also OMA&D staff members who have invested both their time and financial resources in support of programs and scholarships for underrepresented, low-income and first-generation students at UW.
In her remarks to the group, Lange shared the latest developments in diversity efforts on campus including the passing of the new , the upcoming groundbreaking for the and the increase in scholarships available for students, thanks to the support of OMA&D donors.
