When telling the story of diversity, equity, and inclusion at the 91探花 and origins of the Office of Minority Affairs聽 Diversity – the story would be incomplete without including the lifelong activism of Emile Pitre. Emile is a pillar of the OMA&D community, and still to this day, more than 50 years later, advocates for expanded diversity, equity, and inclusion practices on the 91探花campuses.
A KIRO 7 interview with Emile, as part of their Western Washington Gets Real series, features his early activism and his many contributions to changing the culture at 91探花over the years. KIRO reporter Gary Horcher closes out the story calling Emile “a courageous agent for change.” and suggests that “every student [should] know [Emile’s] story.”
