UW鈥檚 Doorway Project seeks to create a hub for homeless youth

The 91探花 is launching The Doorway Project, an effort to establish a University District neighborhood hub and navigation center specifically for homeless young people in a partnership among faculty, student and community service agencies.

The partnership, which is supported by $1 million in state funding over the next two years, is planning to start with a pop-up caf茅 on Dec. 3 in the parking lot of the University Heights Community Center. The pop-up caf茅 will include pay-as-you-can food trucks, live music, social-service agency representatives and access to indoor restrooms and warming space. This will be the first of four such events that organizers hope will lead to plans for permanent site next year.
