New 91探花research reveals key benefits of mindful awareness
Researchers from the 91探花鈥檚 School of Nursing have recently completed a study focusing on the significant benefits mindful awareness in body-oriented therapy (MABT) has for individuals with chronic pain, trauma, and substance use disorders.
Dr. Cynthia Price, a 91探花Professor and director of the Center for Mindful Body Awareness, led the study, which saw researchers teaching participants 鈥渋nteroceptive awareness,鈥 or the ability to conceptualize their internal physical and emotional senses.
The study was conducted across Seattle, Port Angeles and Bellingham and in each city participants received opioid use disorder treatment. MABT showcased significant improvements in participants鈥 pain and PTSD management and emotional regulation.
Many individuals suffering from PTSD develop coping mechanisms that involve bodily disconnection. MABT addresses this and is a particularly valuable approach for nurses. This study, funded through the NIH鈥檚 HEAL initiative offers a scalable, novel treatment for addiction and trauma recovery, all while enhancing participants鈥 holistic well-being.
