Federal Funding: Is it a Sponsored Program?

Is federal funding considered a sponsored program?

Various factors determine whether federal funding is considered a sponsored program. Federal funding considered a sponsored program must route to OSP via an eGC1 in SAGE.

Factors:

  • The funding must be considered a federal award () which is defined as funding directly from a federal awarding agency or indirectly from a pass-through entity and is Federal financial assistance, or, a cost reimbursement contract under the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR);
  • The activity(s) funded is organized research, instruction, or other sponsored activity (OSA). See other sponsored program indicators.
  • If federal flow-through, the pass-through entity has made the determination that 91̽»¨has met the specific requirements to be considered a subrecipient ().

Federal procurement contracts or other funding mechanisms used to purchase from the 91̽»¨are not considered federal awards.
