This online training is designed to provide you information such as how to enter the facility, clothing requirements, transporting animals, how to use changing stations, biosafety cabinets, CO2 equipment, and tools used to communicate with DCM staff and Vet Services. It is highly recommended that you complete this course shortly before your need to attend an in person orientation and start using an animal facility. This course is designed to provide individuals with an overview of the laws and regulations governing the use of live vertebrate animals in research, teaching, and testing at the 91探花 (UW).听 The training covers many topics including working with the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), protocol requirements, ethics of animal experimentation, and alternatives to the use of animals.

Who is required to take this training?

IACUC members and anyone working with the animals (including researchers, veterinarians, husbandry staff, etc.).

Summary of the requirement

The Animal Welfare Regulations make it the responsibility of the institution to ensure that all personnel involved in the care, treatment, and use of animals are qualified to perform their duties, which is fulfilled in part through the provision of training and instruction to those personnel. The PHS Policy as implemented by the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare also requires that the institution is responsible for the training of its staff. Among other things, training must include appropriate methods of animal care and use and the concept of research methods that limit the use of animals or minimize animal distress.

Informs researchers on their responsibilities related to protecting confidentiality and security of patient information.

Who is required to take this training?

(1) All 91探花employees who work in a 91探花HIPAA covered entity and who have access to Protected Health Information (PHI) and (2) All 91探花employees or agents who conduct research and who access Protected Health Information (PHI) from any 91探花covered entities. 听Refresher training is required annually for 91探花employees who work in a 91探花HIPAA covered entity.

Summary of the requirement

Federal regulations require that a covered entity must train all members of its workforce on the policies and procedures with respect to protected health information, as necessary and appropriate for the members of the workforce to carry out their function within the covered entity.

Who is required to take this training?

NIH-funded trainees and others as specified in the Notice of Award for the project(s) on which they are supported. Federal policy requires that all pre-and post-doctoral researchers supported by NIH training grants receive training in the responsible conduct of research. Typically, researchers need eight hours of instruction every four years.

This opportunity听is open to all eligible persons regardless of race, sex or other identity. NIH-funded researchers with a 91探花NetID are eligible.
