A participating site in multi-institutional research is typically under the control of a local investigator at that institution. The local investigator (also called the participating site investigator) is responsible for overseeing study activities at that location. Participating sites may receive subawards or subcontracts from the lead institution or they may receive their own award directly from a federal agency. Under single IRB (sIRB), the participating site will typically rely on the IRB review of the IRB at lead site or another IRB selected by the lead study PI. The responsibilities of a participating site under sIRB review vary with each study phase.<\/p>\n
