Include in your email:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The name of the  91探花PI<\/li>\n<li>A brief description of the study, and a copy of the protocol or research plan if available<\/li>\n<li>The name of the funding agency, if there is one<\/li>\n<li>The names of the other organizations involved in the research<\/li>\n<li>For multi-site studies, whether  91探花is the lead site or a participating site<\/li>\n<li>The name of the IRB you are considering<\/li>\n<li>(If relevant) The reason why you are requesting an exception<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"accordion \" id=\"accordion\">\n<div class=\"screen-reader-text\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"card\">\n<div class=\"card-header\" id=\"accordion-header\">\n<h3 class=\"mb-0\"><button class=\"btn btn-link\" type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse\"><span class=\"btn-text\">Collaborative research with regional institutions<\/span><span class=\"arrow-box\"><span class=\"arrow\"><\/span><\/span><\/button><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"collapse\" class=\"collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion\" role=\"region\">\n<p> 91探花research often involves collaboration with several regional institutions. HSD has reliance agreements in place that define whose IRB should do the review in varying circumstances, to avoid the need for multiple reviews. Click on the appropriate link to find out whether the  91探花IRB or your collaborating institution&#8217;s IRB should do the review, and how to obtain the review.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/hsd\/is-the-uw-irb-the-right-irb\/identify-the-correct-irb\/research-involving-bri\/\">Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/hsd\/is-the-uw-irb-the-right-irb\/identify-the-correct-irb\/oncology-related-research\/\">Fred Hutch or other institutional members of the Cancer Consortium<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/hsd\/is-the-uw-irb-the-right-irb\/identify-the-correct-irb\/research-involving-kpw\/\">Kaiser Permanente of Washington<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/hsd\/is-the-uw-irb-the-right-irb\/identify-the-correct-irb\/research-involving-seattle-childrens\/\">Seattle Children&#8217;s<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/hsd\/is-the-uw-irb-the-right-irb\/identify-the-correct-irb\/research-involving-bloodworks\/\">Bloodworks Northwest<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/hsd\/is-the-uw-irb-the-right-irb\/identify-the-correct-irb\/research-involving-wacbd\/\">Washington Center for Bleeding Disorders<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/hsd\/is-the-uw-irb-the-right-irb\/identify-the-correct-irb\/research-involving-washington-state-agencies\/\">Washington State Agencies (e.g., DSHS and DOC)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/hsd\/is-the-uw-irb-the-right-irb\/identify-the-correct-irb\/research-involving-va\/\">VA Puget Sound Health Care System<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/hsd\/is-the-uw-irb-the-right-irb\/identify-the-correct-irb\/research-involving-public-health-seattle-king-county-phskc\/\">Public Health &#8211; Seattle &amp; King County<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If your research involves any of the following regional institutions, the  91探花IRB will do the review when the  91探花is engaged in the research, unless the other institution is the direct recipient of any funding for the research and there is no subcontract to the UW.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Northwest Kidney Centers<\/li>\n<li>Certain uses of data from WA State L&amp;I<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Consult with HSD at <a href=\"mailto:hsdrely@uw.edu\">hsdrely@uw.edu<\/a> if your research involves any of these regional institutions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Valley Medical Center, read <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/hsd\/is-the-uw-irb-the-right-irb\/identify-the-correct-irb\/valley\/\">Research at Valley Medical Center<\/a><\/li>\n<li>WWAMI institutions and affiliated clinics\/positions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion \" id=\"accordion\">\n<div class=\"screen-reader-text\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"card\">\n<div class=\"card-header\" id=\"accordion-header\">\n<h3 class=\"mb-0\"><button class=\"btn btn-link\" type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse\"><span class=\"btn-text\">Industry research<\/span><span class=\"arrow-box\"><span class=\"arrow\"><\/span><\/span><\/button><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"collapse\" class=\"collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion\" role=\"region\">\n<p>The  91探花requires all <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/hsd\/is-the-uw-irb-the-right-irb\/identify-the-correct-irb\/industry-sponsored-research\/\">industry-sponsored-and-initiated research<\/a> to be reviewed by one of the following IRBs. The industry sponsor and\/or the  91探花researcher can choose which one, but the choice must be authorized by HSD. For industry initiated-and-sponsored clinical trials, a one-time <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/hsd\/is-the-uw-irb-the-right-irb\/identify-the-correct-irb\/industry-sponsored-research\/#admin\">administrative fee<\/a> is charged to the study budget for HSD&#8217;s administrative work throughout the life of the study. The industry sponsor is responsible for paying any IRB review fees.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/hsd\/is-the-uw-irb-the-right-irb\/identify-the-correct-irb\/industry-sponsored-research\/\">Advarra<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/hsd\/is-the-uw-irb-the-right-irb\/identify-the-correct-irb\/oncology-related-research\/\">Fred Hutch<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/hsd\/is-the-uw-irb-the-right-irb\/identify-the-correct-irb\/industry-sponsored-research\/\">WCG IRB<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion \" id=\"accordion\">\n<div class=\"screen-reader-text\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"card\">\n<div class=\"card-header\" id=\"accordion-header\">\n<h3 class=\"mb-0\"><button class=\"btn btn-link\" type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse\"><span class=\"btn-text\">Cancer-related research<\/span><span class=\"arrow-box\"><span class=\"arrow\"><\/span><\/span><\/button><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"collapse\" class=\"collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion\" role=\"region\">\n<p>The  91探花IRB can review most minimal risk cancer-related research, however it does not have sufficient cancer expertise to review most cancer-related clinical trials. Additionally, funding agencies, consortia, and national network groups often have specific IRB requirements. Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/hsd\/is-the-uw-irb-the-right-irb\/identify-the-correct-irb\/oncology-related-research\/\">this page<\/a> to identify the IRB that should review  91探花cancer-related research.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion \" id=\"accordion\">\n<div class=\"screen-reader-text\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"card\">\n<div class=\"card-header\" id=\"accordion-header\">\n<h3 class=\"mb-0\"><button class=\"btn btn-link\" type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse\"><span class=\"btn-text\">Required by sponsor, research network\/consortium, or other involved organization<\/span><span class=\"arrow-box\"><span class=\"arrow\"><\/span><\/span><\/button><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"collapse\" class=\"collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion\" role=\"region\">\n<p><strong>CITN studies<\/strong>. Cancer Immunotherapy Network (CITN) studies must be reviewed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncicirb.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Cancer Institute&#8217;s Central IRB<\/a>. Work with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancerconsortium.org\/research-support\/clinical-research-support.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cancer Consortium&#8217;s Clinical Research Support office<\/a> to obtain the IRB review.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jaeb Center for Health Research (JCHR)<\/strong>. The  91探花relies on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jaeb.org\/hrpp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jaeb Center IRB<\/a> for studies conducted in collaboration with JCHR.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NMDP and CIBMTR studies<\/strong>. Bone marrow donation or transplantation research involving the National Bone Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) or the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR) must be reviewed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/network.bethematchclinical.org\/research\/institutional-review-board\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NMDP IRB<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NCTN and cooperative intervention studies<\/strong>. National Clinical Trials Network and cooperative group intervention studies must be reviewed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncicirb.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Cancer Institute&#8217;s Central IRB<\/a>. Work with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancerconsortium.org\/research-support\/clinical-research-support.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cancer Consortium&#8217;s Clinical Research Support office<\/a> to obtain the IRB review.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NEALS Northeast ALS Consortium<\/strong>. NEALS Consortium studies must be reviewed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.neals.org\/for-als-researchers\/central-irb-master-contracts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mass General Brigham IRB<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Access for All in ALS (ALL ALS)<\/strong>. ALL ALS Consortium studies must be reviewed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.massgeneralbrigham.org\/en\/research-and-innovation\/for-researchers-and-collaborators\/collaborators-and-sponsors\/human-research-protection-program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mass General Brigham IRB<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NeuroNEXT Network.<\/strong> ALL NeuroNEXT studies must be reviewed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.massgeneralbrigham.org\/en\/research-and-innovation\/for-researchers-and-collaborators\/collaborators-and-sponsors\/human-research-protection-program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mass General Brigham IRB<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PETAL Prevention and Treatment of Acute Lung Injury Network<\/strong>. <a href=\"http:\/\/petalnet.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PETAL network studies<\/a> must be reviewed by the Vanderbilt IRB.<\/p>\n<p><strong>StrokeNet<\/strong>. NIH-funded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nihstrokenet.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">StrokeNet<\/a> studies must be reviewed by the University of Cincinnati IRB or Advarra depending on the protocol.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion \" id=\"accordion\">\n<div class=\"screen-reader-text\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"card\">\n<div class=\"card-header\" id=\"accordion-header\">\n<h3 class=\"mb-0\"><button class=\"btn btn-link\" type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse\"><span class=\"btn-text\">Smart IRB<\/span><span class=\"arrow-box\"><span class=\"arrow\"><\/span><\/span><\/button><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"collapse\" class=\"collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion\" role=\"region\">\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/smartirb.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SMART IRB<\/a><\/strong> is not an actual IRB. It is an NIH-funded initiative that facilitates the federally-mandated Single IRB requirement. It developed a Master IRB Reliance Agreement (which  91探花has signed), that encourages collaboration and consistency across IRBs, and offers flexible resources and tools in support of Single IRB review for IRBs and researchers.<\/p>\n<p>HSD must still authorize the use of any external IRB for a specific study under the Master Agreement. In addition, the external IRB using the Smart Master will generally require HSD to negotiate an agreement addendum that outlines some additional details about the IRB review.<\/p>\n<p><strong> 91探花researchers are not authorized to request IRB review through the Smart IRB Online Reliance system<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This page describes review arrangements and requirements for specific types of research.
