FEATURED HUSKIES FROM THE 44TH LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT

Melissa Arias is part of the executive team leading Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington. Arias helps provide children living with critical illnesses an experience that transforms their lives, strengthens families and brings communities together. 鈥淎 wish has tangible effects not only on a child鈥檚 mental and physical health, but on their family 鈥 moms, dads, brothers, sisters and grandparents. And on the greater community that surrounds them.鈥
"When I was ten, I held a plant in my hands and had the first thoughts of what I wanted to do in the future, without knowing what science was. When I was in high school, I had my hypothesis, telling myself that my hardship as an immigrant, first-generation student without any guidance would not allow me to get into science. Yet now, I'm still on that path, proud to be a Husky 100 student, doing what my ten-year-old self dreamt of after being guided and mentored by awesome, kind people. "
