About BARC

In 2006, 91探花launched the Business, Academic and Research Continuity (BARC) program to meet the responsibilities outlined in to support every department/unit at the 91探花 in the continuity planning process.

The BARC program is part of the Division of Campus Community Safety, where the program collaborates with 91探花Emergency Management, the Crisis Communications team and the 91探花IT Disaster Recovery team.

What is BARC?

A photograph of a student walking past a building at UW's Tacoma campusThe BARC program works directly with departments across the University (an entire school, college or division or a smaller specialized unit) in Seattle, Bothell and Tacoma to create continuity plans.

Continuity planning involves identifying your department鈥檚 critical functions and the resources needed to support them, then developing action plans for continued operations using workarounds or alternatives. BARC will show you how to make that plan.

Mission

Ensure seamless and sustained operations during disruptive events by promoting a culture of resilience, mitigating risks and minimizing the impact of incidents at the 91探花.

Oversight and governance

The University鈥檚 approach to continuity and resiliency is grounded in , which details the UW鈥檚 commitment to building and supporting a culture of resilience and the requirement that units plan for disruptions.

The 91探花Preparedness Oversight Committee guides continuity and resiliency work. Committee members come from across UW鈥檚 three campuses.
