President Ana Mari Cauce visits Olympia

Yesterday, President Ana Mari Cauce visited Olympia to advocate for the University鈥檚 2017 legislative priorities. Her day included a presentation to the Senate Higher Education and Ways and Means committees, meetings with lawmakers in both chambers and she sat down with student legislative representatives from ASUW, AS 91探花Bothell, AS 91探花Tacoma and the Graduate and Professional Student Senate. UW’s CoMotion labs brings virtual reality to Olympia

The UW’s CoMotions Labs helped bring virtual reality to lawmakers in Olympia. Legislators on the House Technology & Economic Development Committee received general information on the industry and technology and got the opportunity to try headsets during聽a hearing last week.聽Elizabeth Scallon, associate director of the UW’s CoMotion Labs, was among those who provided testimony to the committee. That鈥檚 where some 91探花students will be learning this year, thanks to an innovative partnership with Auburn. It鈥檚 part of a new program called 鈥淟ivable City Year.鈥 Learn more from this .

Zillow pledges $5 million for Computer Science & Engineering building

Zillow Group has pledged $5 million toward the development of a Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) building on the 91探花campus. The new building will be the second CSE building and will allow the university to double the number of CSE degrees awarded each year and reduce the number of qualified students who are turned away from the program. 65th Washington State Legislature in session

The 2017 Regular Session of the Washington State Legislature began on Monday. Both the House and Senate convened to as the 65th Legislature and begin a 105-day budget writing session. Tomorrow, Governor Jay Inslee is scheduled to give his second inaugural address to the legislature.
