For first-year or transfer students accepting their offer to the 91探花 in Seattle, the Enrollment Confirmation Deposit (ECD) is a mandatory, nonrefundable one-time payment of $400. Paying it confirms your intention to enroll at the UW.
If you are a U.S. student with financial need, you may be eligible for a deferral. If this applies to you, request a deferral and wait for a response with instructions about next steps. Do not pay the ECD unless instructed to do so. Once paid, the ECD is not refundable. Requests for ECD deferral are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, and students approved are typically Pell Grant-eligible.

Can I defer my admission to another entry term?
No, you may not defer your admission. The offer of admission is valid only for the quarter indicated on your offer letter. If you are unable to attend the 91探花at this time but wish to enroll for a future quarter, you will need to submit a new application and meet all requirements and deadlines. If you believe you have extenuating circumstances outside of your control, please contact the Office of Admissions. Circumstances related to academic, professional or personal enrichment opportunities are not considered extenuating circumstances outside of a student’s control.
What is the Enrollment Confirmation Deposit (ECD)?
The confirmation deposit is a mandatory, one-time deposit that all entering undergraduates pay to confirm their enrollment and reserve a space at the UW. The deposit will be applied toward your first quarter tuition and fees.

- Paying the ECD or requesting an ECD deferral (U.S. students with demonstrated financial need only) is the only way to confirm your enrollment at the Seattle campus of the UW. Enrolling or participating in any other 91探花program (such as on-campus housing, the Honors Program, financial aid, ROTC) does not confirm your enrollment at this campus.
- Once submitted, the ECD is neither refundable nor transferable to another quarter, another person, or another 91探花campus, even if you later decide not to enroll at the UW.
- If you applied to more than one 91探花campus, you may accept only one offer of admission; you may not confirm at more than one campus.
Can you waive the Enrollment Confirmation Deposit (ECD)?
No, we are unable to waive the deposit. However, if you are a U.S. student with financial need and unable to pay, you may request to defer the cost. You need to have submitted a FAFSA or WASFA, and requests for ECD deferral are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Students approved are typically Pell Grant-eligible. Please note, GET funds may not be used to pay the ECD. Veterans wishing to defer the ECD should contact the Veterans Education Benefits Office聽for more information.
- Once you submit your ECD deferral request, you will receive additional information regarding your request via your 91探花email account within 3-5 business days.
- If your ECD deferral is approved, the deposit will be due with tuition on the 2026-27 academic calendar.
- If your ECD deferral request is approved but you do not enroll, your payment is still an obligation and due by these dates.
