The 91探花is seeking private funds to endow a scholarship in memory of Lt. Col. Michael P. Anderson, 鈥81, who died in the space shuttle Columbia disaster. The endowment will be built with gifts from 91探花alumni, fac-ulty, staff, students and friends.
The scholarship, to be named the Lt. Col. Michael P. Anderson Memorial Diversity Scholarship, would provide support for underrepresented minority students majoring in engineering or the sciences. The goal is to raise at least $100,000, which would provide $5,000 a year in tuition support.
鈥淥ur hope is that this scholarship will contribute to Lt. Col. Anderson鈥檚 dream of creating a highly educated, diverse pool of talented young people for the sciences generally and the nation鈥檚 space program in particular,鈥 says Eric Godfrey, assistant vice president for scholarships and student programs in the office of development and alumni relations.
