The eyes will see dancers moving among walls that move, swirling water waves, and a lonely bed at this year’s 91探花Faculty Dance Concert March 4鈥�7 in Meany Studio Theater.
Internationally recognized for his solo Goldberg Variations, Artist-in-Residence Mark Haim will perform a new dance solo titled In the Moment. The piece incorporates original music by Paul Lansky. Haim will also showcase a dance set on 11 undergraduate students.
Hailing from Wales, new visiting faculty member Jurg Koch will present five– for now, a dance for five inspired by the dancers themselves, specifically from tales spun during rehearsals.
Former Nikolais/Louis company member and part-time Mark Morris dancer Peter Kyle has created Slumber Gin a fanciful piece for five performers in which sleep, dreaming, and waking are placed inside a shifting landscape.
Assistant Professor Jen Salk鈥檚 To Be Continued, (often referred by the insiders as the 鈥渂ed piece鈥�), is a light-hearted look at loneliness. This solo will be shared in performance by two of UW鈥檚 Graduate dance students Rebecca Chisman and Carolyn Pavlik. Salk is also premiering a dance for 10 performers, featuring music by Ravi Shankar and Phillip Glass.
Assistant Professor Maria Simpson will perform in her solo From a Glass Bottom Boat which first premiered at JoyceSoho in New York City as part of the 2002 dancenow festival. Professor Steve Pearson from UW鈥檚 School of Drama will add his voice to this piece.
Tickets for the concert are $9, $7 for students and seniors, and are available at the Arts Ticket Office. Curtain time for the concert is 7:30 p.m. March 4鈥�6 and 2 p.m. March 7.
