Susan Grant, senior associate administrator for Patient Care Services and chief nursing officer of 91探花Medical Center, has been appointed as an assistant dean for clinical nursing practice in the 91探花School of Nursing.

鈥淪usan Grant鈥檚 appointment reflects the importance of the School of Nursing鈥檚 relationship with the world of practice,鈥 said Dr. Nancy Fugate Woods, dean of the School of Nursing. 鈥淎s the nurse executive of the nation鈥檚 first Magnet hospital, she leads a highly complex system of care where her direct influence shapes nursing care for patients with very complex and challenging health problems.鈥

As assistant dean, Grant will advise the School of Nursing leadership regarding emerging issues and trends in nursing practice and pursue collaborative ventures between 91探花Medical Center and the nursing school.

鈥淪usan鈥檚 window on the world provides us with a unique perspective from which to view the rapidly changing nature of acute care nursing practice as well as the primary care provided by advanced practice nurses in an academic health center,鈥 Woods said. 鈥淎s part of an academic health center, the School of Nursing is uniquely positioned to educate our students in current nursing practice and for our faculty to collaborate with practitioners at 91探花Medical Center and in its outpatient clinics.鈥

Grant joined 91探花Medical Center in 2000 from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, where she served as chief of nursing and patient care services. She worked previously in nursing positions in Georgia and South Carolina. She has a bachelor鈥檚 degree in nursing from the Medical College of Georgia and a master鈥檚 degree in nursing from the University of South Carolina.

鈥淭his appointment formalizes the relationship 91探花Medical Center has with the School of Nursing as partners in our continuous efforts to improve nursing education and practice.鈥 Grant said. 鈥淚 am excited about this relationship because our work together over the last few years is making a difference for the future of nursing in our community.鈥
