HUB chefs Eric Lenard and Jacob Moyer, for example, came up with a citrus- cured salmon roll with shaved fennel and arugula salad. Kathy Hanken of Eleven 01 has created a lemongrass pork summer roll filled with Vietnamese table salad and served with roasted mango chili sauce. And Tracey MacRae of Mcmahon 8 offers two savory cheesecakes 鈥� cabrales blue with bacon and Humboldt fog with prosciutto.
The 91探花chefs鈥� dishes are just a few of those in an evening that features food and drink from 70 restaurants, breweries, wineries and beverage companies. WINNER TIMES TWO: In our last issue we wrote about two staffers who were competing in the Co-Motion Classic Tandem Stage Race in Oregon last weekend. Well, Martin Criminale and Martha Walsh rode their tandem bicycle to victory in the mixed (male/female team) tandem A (the fastest group) category. 鈥淭he highlights were making it to the top of the big climb in the first road race in the front group of three tandems and beating our competition by a minute in the time trial,鈥� Walsh said. She and Criminale also had the second-fastest cumulative time overall, meaning they beat all but one of the all-male tandem teams.
EDUCATING TEACHERS: Don Wulff, director of the Center for Instructional Development and Research, has joined with his colleagues at CIDR to produce a new book on teaching and learning. Wulff is the editor of Aligning for Learning: Strategies for Teaching Effectiveness, and his associate editors, all CIDR staffers, are Wayne Jacobson, Karen Freisem, Deborah Hatch, Margaret Lawrence and Lana Rae Lenz. The book is being published by Anker Publishing.
LOGGER SPORTS: If you missed the 91探花Logger Sports Conclave at Pack Forest earlier this year, you can tune in to ESPNU to see them as part of the Stihl Timbersports Collegiate Challenge. The program will air from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 7, from 6:30 to 8 a.m. on Aug. 9 and from 6:45 to 8:15 a.m. on Aug. 13.
HE鈥橲 GOT VISION: Psychology Professor Steve Buck has been elected general secretary of the International Color Vision Society. The general secretary is the group鈥檚 chief operating officer and chair of its Directors Board. This is the first time that a non-European has been elected to the office, and Buck says it stems in part from the success of the group鈥檚 symposium in Seattle, which he helped to organize.
BOTANICAL BOSS: Kudos to David Mabberley who was just appointed secretary to the International Association of Botanical and Mycological Societies. Among the Society鈥檚 duties is deciding where the next International Botanical Congress () will take place.
