Baker chosen for research scholars program
Dr. Maggie Baker, research assistant professor of the School of Nursing, was one of 11 nurse researchers chosen to participate in the 2005 Geriatric Nursing Research Scholars Program, run by the Hartford Foundation Institute for Geriatric Nursing at New York University. Baker was selected based on her leadership potential and her research, which focuses on physiological and psychological measures of stress in elders who are reported to adult protective services.
Ramsey Professorship now and endowed chair
With additional gifts to support research in cystic fibrosis, the Bonnie W. Ramsey, M.D., Professorship in Cystic Fibrosis, established in 2001, has now been upgraded to an endowed chair. Ramsey, professor of pediatrics and director of the Cystic Fibrosis Center at Children鈥檚 Hospital and Regional Medical Center, is the first holder of the chair.
HMC seeking participants for cholesterol study
The Northwest Lipid Research Clinic at Harborview Medical Center is conducting a research study for men and women ages 18 to 75 with low levels of 鈥済ood鈥� (HDL) cholesterol. All eligible individuals will receive an approved cholesterol-lowering medication plus an investigational medication or a placebo. If interested, call 206-744-9204.
Photographer, author to sign book
Betty Udesen, longtime Seattle Times photographer, and Seattle author Barbara Collopy O鈥橦alloran will sign copies of their book, Creature Comforts: People and their Security Objects, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, in Gifts at Harborview Medical Center. Their book is a collection of Udesen鈥檚 black-and-white photographs with first-person essays on relationships with comfort objects 鈥� such as blankets, dolls and articles of clothing.
Udesen was injured covering the tsunami aftermath and relief efforts in Indonesia. Afer several surgeries overseas, she was flown to Harborview where Dr. Gregory Jurkovich, 91探花professor of surgery and trauma specialist, operated. Her story is among those featured in the current issue of Harborview鈥檚 annual 鈥淩eport to the Community.鈥�
