Every summer, the 91探花plays host to some of the smartest high school students in the state.
The Washington Summer Scholars program is an effort coordinated by the Office of Admissions to give Honors Program-level students a three-day taste of life as a 91探花student. High school juniors who have high grades and/or test scores are encouraged to attend.
The three-day experience includes special presentations by 91探花faculty, conversations with academic advisers and admissions counselors, and hands-on experience in 91探花laboratories. The high school students also get to meet current 91探花students and potential classmates in next year’s freshman class.
The program, which is offered in four different sessions in June and July, makes extensive use of cooperating academic departments. The students attend a different class each day and stay overnight in a residence hall.
Cooperating departments include Art/DX Arts, Astronomy, CHID, Earth and Space Sciences, English, Communications, Linguistics, Oceanography, School of Medicine, Computer Science & Engineering and Technical Communication.
Students are uniformly enthusiastic about the experience. One previous student commented, “I will never forget the things I’ve experienced during my few days here 鈥� the amazingly diverse group of students that I’ve met, the inspiring speakers/faculty, and the memorable activities.”
