91̽»¨Special Collections Film Archivist Hannah Palin will introduce “Home Movie Day,” an event of the Society of American Archivists 91̽»¨Student Chapter, from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, in the Allen Auditorium. The event is open to members of the 91̽»¨community.


Palin will introduce the program and provide an overview of important things to know about preserving and caring for film and other moving image media. 91̽»¨iSchool students will show and comment on personal films. Special guest for the evening is 91̽»¨Information School alumnus Michael Rene Wood, who will show examples of home movies from his collection of 8mm films.


Rarely-seen selections from 91̽»¨Special Collections will also be featured:



  • Kerry Collection – Red Riding Hood. Members and friends of an old Seattle family perform a magic trick and stage a whimsical retelling of the fairy tale with the aid of a Model T and a fur coat.
  • Bob Waffenschmidt Home Movies. Beautiful images of a family visit to a location somewhere in the Pacific Northwest coast; and the town of Yakima packs the world’s biggest box of apples, 1934.
  • William F. Lagen Home Movies. Bear cubs, whaling, and images from a settlement in Alaska in the 1920s.
  • (Filmmaker Unknown). 1950s color film of a Native American gathering with dances and canoe races.
