91̽»¨Bothell has announced that Mahnaz Aflatooni Javid will speak at its commencement ceremony June 13.
Javid is a graduate of 91̽»¨Bothell, earning her master’s there in education in 1995. She has a doctorate in educational leadership, with a focus on educational technologies and human-software interface from Seattle University. She is a recognized expert in the integration of technology across disciplines to enhance learning, and has authored several articles in scholarly publications.
Javid is one of the founding members of the , a nonprofit organization supporting grassroots educational initiatives to raise the status of women and girls in the United States and abroad.
91̽»¨Bothell will hold its commencement from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 13, at the Bank of America Arena, Hec Edmundson Pavilion. It is expected that more than 700 undergraduate and graduate students will participate in the ceremonies.
At 91̽»¨Tacoma, the commencement speaker will be Mark Pendras, a professor in Urban Studies who was earlier selected as this year’s Distinguished Teaching Award recipient at UWT.
“It is certainly a great and unexpected honor to be this year’s commencement speaker,” Pendra said. “The students had voiced an interest in having faculty representation at the ceremony, which I think is a great idea.”
91̽»¨Tacoma’s commencement ceremony will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 11, in the Tacoma Dome, with about 800 students expected to participate.
