As the new school year kicks off next week, the arts come alive with an array of exhibits, lectures and performances to enjoy. The Henry Art Gallery opens two exhibits and the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture goes buggy. There’s much to see and do in the next week.

Exhibit: Kristine Matthews, through Oct. 4. Matthews, an assistant professor of visual communication design, as part of the tenure and promotion process in the . Reception 4-7 p.m. Oct. 1. Get eye-to-eye with giant walking sticks and examine bugs of all kinds from the Burke Museum of Natural History Culture’s collections at this annual family . “Bug Chef” David George Gordon returns with new recipes from the latest edition of his “eat-a-bug” cookbook.
“Macro on Micro,” Empowering Women through Art and Action series, 7 p.m., Sep. 25. Microfinance is touted as 鈥渙ne of the most successful economic innovations for people living in poverty.鈥� But is it? Global Partnerships, a local nonprofit and partner in the “Empowering Women” exhibit, asks us to think differently about microfinance and explains how their funding strategy is evolving, in this at the Burke Museum.
