Six scientists and engineers from the 91探花 have been elected to the Washington State Academy of Sciences. According to a released by the organization, the new members were selected for 鈥渢heir outstanding record of scientific achievement and willingness to work on behalf of the academy in bringing the best available science to bear on issues within the state of Washington.鈥
In all, 91探花faculty make up almost half of the 13 new members, who will be formally inducted in September during an annual meeting at the Museum of Flight in Seattle.
Elected by current members of the Washington State Academy of Sciences:
- , professor of environmental and occupational health sciences
- , professor of mechanical engineering
- , professor of sociology
- , interim dean of the School of Public Health; professor of environmental and occupational health sciences, epidemiology and general internal medicine
- , professor of physics
- , professor and chair of aeronautics and astronautics
Additionally, two 91探花researchers were elected by current members of the academy to the organization鈥檚 board:
, senior associate dean in the School of Public Health and professor of epidemiology (inducted to WSAS in 2015)
, professor of nursing (inducted to WSAS in 2016)
Incorporated by legislation in 2007, the Washington State Academy of Sciences initially had just 105 members. With this new crop of members from 91探花and other institutions around the state, the academy鈥檚 total membership will rise to 267. The academy鈥檚 mission is 鈥渢o provide expert scientific and engineering analysis to inform public policymaking in Washington, and to increase the role and visibility of science in the state.鈥
