Jonathan Biss听–听Celebrating Beethoven Pt 1

November 5, 7:30 pm | Meany Center

In celebration of the 250th anniversary of Beethoven鈥檚 birth, Meany Center presents a selection of his piano sonatas with acclaimed pianist and Beethoven expert Jonathan Biss. In addition to having embarked on a nine-year project to record all 32 of the composer鈥檚 piano sonatas, he created Coursera鈥檚 popular open online course,聽Exploring Beethoven鈥檚 Piano Sonatas.聽In the first of two programs, Biss showcases the remarkable variety of expression in these works as he focuses on the dramatic Opus 7 with its tremendous confidence and optimism; the 鈥淭empest鈥 full of mystery and ambiguity; and the 鈥淎ppassionata,鈥 a furious, remorseless descent into darkness.

Diana Trotter: Monologue Audition PART TWO

November 6, 6 – 8 pm | Brechemin Auditorium

Four to six volunteers from this workshop will coach their crafted songs/monologues using the process learned in the聽. This master class is well worth observing with a host of take-aways for your own auditions and time to Q&A with Diana Trotter.

Danish String Quartet

November 7, 7:30 pm | Meany Center

The Danish String Quartet mesmerizes audiences with its impeccable intonation, integrated sound and infectious energy. These modern-day chamber music Vikings are acclaimed as one of the 鈥渂est quartets before the public today鈥 (The Washington Post). For their Meany Center performance, the Quartet presents music from its聽Prism聽series, with the Grammy-nominated聽Prism I聽that includes the first of Beethoven鈥檚 late string quartets, a fugue by J.S. Bach and Shostakovich鈥檚 final string quartet.
