The abstract also known as the project summary should be a clear, concise outline of problem & objectives with expected outcome of the proposed project.

Abstracts are typically part of a proposal and there is also a section for the abstract in the eGC1. These two sections should match. In the absence of an abstract requirement in a proposal, the eGC1 abstract should be a high-level description of the scope of work. A 91探花abstract is required for all Proposal and After-the-Fact eGC1s.

Some sponsors like NSF require the project summary to address the intellectual merit & broader impacts that will result.

Administrative elements of a proposal will need to satisfy technical requirements set by the sponsor, as well as compliance requirements based on regulations or University policy.

For eGC1 proposals submitted 7 or more business days before a sponsor deadline, the 鈥淪cope of Work鈥 (鈥淪OW鈥) may still be in a draft form. Note, however, that the SOW must be far enough along to allow for the accurate identification of any potential compliance issues. The SOW submitted must be the SOW affiliated with the business proposal. Administrative elements also include areas such as facilities, resources, and IT capabilities, as well as formatting and sponsor requirements.

  • A named Administrative PI is responsible on behalf of 91探花for Principal Investigator final review and submission of the proposal and progress reports as well as the overall fiscal management of the sponsored program.
  • They are responsible for making determinations regarding transactions involving, or of interest to, an outside entity with which the PI may have a relationship or interest. This includes:
    • An entity with which the PI has a Financial Conflict Of Interest (FCOI).
    • A sponsor, such as when the PI is named as the PI on the prime award at another entity, and that entity is issuing a subaward to UW.
    • A vendor or consultant contract in which the procurement activity should be reviewed by an independent assessor (in this case the Administrative PI) who has equivalent or more senior title to the conflicted Investigator.
  • The Administrative PI shall not have any relationship with the outside entity, unless it is an affiliated entity with which the 91探花has a formal affiliation agreement, and at which the Administrative PI has a joint appointment.
  • *This mechanism is not to be used in cases where the University must request Sponsor approval for changes in PI.
