New to the UW

Welcome! We have a lot a resources to help you get settled into your new role. Our guide “Getting started with web publishing at the UW” is meant to serve as an excellent starting point to get you connected to the tools and resources you need to be successful in your new role. Our documentation website is chock full of tutorials, resources, best practices, and more. Accessible Technology Services is here to support you as well with guides and resources to help you build accessible websites. Don’t forget to check out the 91探花web checklist to make sure your site meets all of criteria set forth by the UW.

Communities of practice

At the 91探花, there are a many of communities of practice (CoPs) available to you. Here are some of the web-focused ones that you may find useful.

Communities of practice

Join UW-IT’s Accessible Technology Services and other 91探花web community members in a monthly meetup to discuss accessibility and usability issues in a relaxed setting and provide feedback on each others’ projects.

Join the meetup

This group aims to improve the experience of our systems, services, and development efficiency by focusing on the needs of people using those systems and services. Members will learn about and user experience design methods and best practices from peers.

With accessibility and responsive design as common themes, this CoP shares knowledge on front-end web development and technologies. Topics include coding techniques and frameworks, preprocessors, code editors and more.

The WordPress Users Group (WPUG) connects WordPress users across the 91探花so they can share, support and learn best practices, campus tools and branding guidelines. Great for users of all skill levels.

A community of site administrators, developers, designers and content editors who use Drupal to build web sites and applications at the UW. New members are always welcome.

At the 91探花, there are a many Listservs availalbe to keep you informed and connected to all parts of the university. Here are some of that you may find useful.

This list, run by UMAC, sends announcements for upcoming Web Council meetings and other web-related activities on campus.

This list is a medium-traffic one-way distribution for UWIT to let us know about any type of technical outage, issue, etc. on any 91探花campus.

This is a target list for Drupal developers. The list also contains announcements about upcoming Drupal CoP meetings.

This is a targeted list for WordPress developers. This list also contains announcements about upcoming WordPress CoP meetings.

This is a targeted list for Front End developers. This list also contains announcements about upcoming Front End Dev meet ups.

This is a fairly broad group focused on Accessible Web, and technology, issues. This list also contains announcements about upcoming “AccessibleWeb@U” meet ups.

This list is a low-traffic one-way distribution for UWIT to let us know about changes to the Web publishing landscape at UW.

This is a targeted list for Trumba developers. This list also contains announcements about upcoming Trumba workshops and meet ups.

A low traffic list with notifications and service impacts regarding websites running on these servers.
