Anti-Racism and DEI&B in the Workplace

At the 91̽»¨, we value and honor diverse experiences and perspectives; strive to create welcoming and respectful learning, working, and living environments; and promote access, opportunity, and justice.

Cultivating Community at UW: Anti-racism and DEI&B in the workplace is a baseline training, designed to educate on a range of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEI&B) topics such as racism, disability and accessibility, and LGBTQ+ identities, and to highlight how these issues affect colleagues and students at the 91̽»¨. This required course is designed for staff, faculty, and other academic personnel.

With the passage of RCWs , , and in June of 2021, the 91̽»¨â€“ along with all public higher education institutions in Washington state – must provide a professional development program for faculty and staff with the purpose of eliminating structural racism and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

There are three primary goals for this training:

  • Fostering inclusive and respectful work and learning environments
  • Helping employees build understanding and capacity in DEIB & Anti-racism practices
  • Identifying additional tools and resources for ongoing learning
