What is a campus climate survey?

A campus climate survey is a tool to examine the full range of student, staff, faculty and other academic personnel experiences related to learning, working and living at the 91̽»¨â€” experiences that shape whether you feel a sense of belonging and inclusion, and whether you’re able to thrive and succeed here.

To guide actions that improve the experiences and well-being of our students, faculty and staff, the 91̽»¨conducted a University-wide climate survey on the Bothell, Seattle and Tacoma campuses and at 91̽»¨Medicine, April 22 through May 30, 2025. This confidential survey offered an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to share their personal experiences at the UW. Feedback from over 11,000 respondents will help us improve the climate on our campuses and individual units.

The Climate Survey Working Group (CSWG) was charged with conducting the 91̽»¨â€™s climate survey. Made up of 18 members representing all three campuses, the CSWG was responsible for guiding the survey, including determining the questions that were asked.

The 91̽»¨Institutional Assessment & Evaluation (IAE) developed and administered the survey in partnership with the CSWG. The working group updated the University community and 91̽»¨leadership regularly about its progress.”

After administration of the survey, the CSWG was retired, and the newly charged Campus Climate Implementation Committee was charged with the next phase of the project. Their work will include helping communicate and socialize information about the climate survey results and helping identify recommendations and action items. The committee’s focus is on supporting the 91̽»¨in learning from the survey results and recommending efforts to improve the climate for students, faculty and staff based on the findings.
