Alex
Personal Trainer Profile
Alex
Alex is local to Seattle, and didn鈥檛 always have a passion for lifting weights. Growing up, he wrestled, swam, and played football. The weight room and extra conditioning were seen as punishment instead of a joy to do. He cultivated a love for health and fitness after an ACL injury took him out of the game. He had to figure out how to stay active while also staying safe, which led him to the gym.
Alex believes that if you aren鈥檛 having fun and loving every repetition, something is going wrong. Nobody should feel that exercise is punishing, and everyone should come to know the joy of fitness. He uses an evidence-based approach to lifting so that you can achieve your goals and stick to them in the easiest way possible.
In his free time, you鈥檒l find Alex playing golf, hiking, and of course, in the gym!

Becky
Personal Trainer Profile
Becky
Becky studied kinesiology in college with the intention of becoming a physical therapist. After volunteering at various physical therapy clinics, she realized she enjoyed preventative training more than treating and releasing. She shifted her focus from physical therapy to personal training, initially training athletes, and now works with all types of exercisers. She is quick to notice inefficient movement patterns along with muscle imbalances and weaves in exercises to improve both.
Growing up, Becky was a competitive gymnast and switched to rowing in college when she successfully walked on to Western鈥檚 women鈥檚 rowing team. She has coached rowing at Pacific Lutheran University, worked as an Exercise Specialist at Valley Medical Center, and most recently, was one of the trainers at Eastlake Performance.
In her free time, she rows on Lake Union, rock climbs, runs, crochets, and reads. She loves to try new things and isn鈥檛 scared to struggle through the learning process.

Helen
Personal Trainer Profile
Helen
Helen is a bilingual personal trainer, international student from Taiwan, providing training in both English and Mandarin. Her journey into personal training began with observing her family. Watching her mom and grandma struggle with daily tasks and give up activities they once enjoyed due to muscle loss and decreased bone density inspired her to focus on helping people build strength safely and intentionally. She believes strength training is essential for maintaining long-term quality of life, especially for women who are more susceptible to muscle and bone mass loss over time. Her goal is to help clients understand why training matters, how to train safely, and what to do to continuously improve.
Helen鈥檚 teaching style is communicative, approachable, and education-focused. She prioritizes explaining movement mechanics, safety cues, and the reasoning behind each exercise, particularly for women who may feel hesitant about resistance training. She dedicates extra time to injury prevention strategies, bone-loading exercises, and habit formation because she believes longevity and confidence come from mastering the fundamentals. Her clients gain not only strength, but also clarity and ownership over their training.
Through training her friends, Helen witnessed meaningful transformation, helping them transition from sedentary lifestyles to feeling physically strong, stable, and mentally resilient. Watching them gain muscle, improve movement quality, and build confidence reinforced her commitment to evidence-based coaching and continues to fuel her work.
Helen actively stays updated on research related to female-specific training, including nutrition strategies, resistance training modalities, hormonal considerations, and how social environments influence women鈥檚 mindset toward fitness. She believes empowering women with accurate information helps shift strength training from something intimidating to something empowering.

Shawn
Personal Trainer Profile
Shawn
Shawn has been passionate about fitness and bodybuilding since high school, starting out as a 90-pound freshman who could barely lift the bar and slowly building strength and confidence through years of consistent training, nutrition, and discipline. His journey taught him that progress takes patience and intention-learning proper technique, training with intensity, and staying consistent through setbacks. After years of dealing with injuries and low-back pain, he became deeply interested in movement mechanics and recovery, which led him to work in a chiropractic clinic. There, he specialized in strength and mobility restoration, helping patients recover from pain and regain full function.
Now at UW, Shawn combines his background in bodybuilding, injury prevention, and exercise science to help students and community members train intelligently, build muscle safely, and feel their best. He believes fitness should enhance life outside the gym, not limit it, and aims to help every client reach their full potential inside and outside the gym.

While studying both Psychology and Informatics, Youseph is also a NASM-certified personal trainer with a passion for guiding himself and others toward reaching their fitness and wellness goals!
After growing up overweight and always self-conscious about his looks, Youseph realized that things needed to change. But rather than suffer running laps or jumping rope all day, he looked more towards weightlifting as his route to success. One day, Youseph decided to pick up a pair of 40lb dumbbells鈥 And then put them back down and replace them with 15s! While it was a slow and extensive journey, there was never a day when he didn鈥檛 enjoy stepping into the gym and working hard!
Physical activity had started as a dreadful part of his day and transformed into something he looked forward to, and wanted to share with others. Whether it’s someone who鈥檚 never even been inside of a gym in their life or an aspiring bodybuilder trying to be the next Chris Bumstead, Youseph wants to make the journey easier for those wary of taking the first steps of bettering their lives.
