UAA alumna Lesley Everett featured in The Gates Scholar magazine

Lesley Everett, 2006 Honors graduate in biochemistry, Mary Gates Research Scholar, and Gates Cambridge Scholar, is featured on the cover of The Gates Scholar magazine winter issue, the twice-yearly publication featuring current and alumni Gates Cambridge scholar activities. Read her article, “Searching for Sickle Cell.”

Unique lens into human rights in Kenya comes from Kenyan artists

Undergraduate Academic Affairs

Human rights in Kenya will be highlighted locally via an art show as a result of an African Studies seminar in Kenya. Erin Murphy, Honors alumna, and current graduate student participated in the seminar 鈥淗uman Rights and Social Transformation in Kenya鈥 in Nairobi, Kenya, last summer and is one of the students coordinating a show and sale of artwork by Kenyan artists.

The Fulbright Program recently announced the complete list of colleges and universities that produced the most 2009-2010 U.S. Fulbright Fellows. Among research institutions, the 91探花shares eleventh place with Cornell University and produced more Fulbright students than any other Global Challenge state university.

Volunteers needed for Dream Project’s Annual Admissions Workshop Weekend

Undergraduate Academic Affairs

Join the Dream Project on November 14 and 15 and help more than 300 local high school students craft competitive college application essays. Volunteer writing tutors are needed to work with students one-on-one. Students who attend the weekend often come in with nothing and leave having submitted a completed college application.

In honor of the ideals of Martin Luther King, Jr., the Carlson Center is coordinating the 9th Annual MLK, Jr. Day of Service. Project Leaders are needed to help make the day a community-wide success.
