Applying as an undergraduate researcher (Jan. 6 – Feb. 12, 2026)

The application for the Undergraduate Research Symposium will open on January 6, 2026, and close (11:59 p.m.) on February 12, 2026. Below you can access resources to help encourage undergraduate researchers to consider applying for this opportunity!

This year we’ve collaborated with key departments to help gather information and resources for students in Drama and the Arts to see themselves at Symposium. These webpages include information on what types of projects might be presented, how they can be presented, and even references to previous presentations in these areas.

Events to support undergraduate researchers

The Office of Undergraduate Research hosts a series of events throughout the application and leading up to the day to support undergraduate researchers. Please feel free to share these events with students or sign-up!

  • 91̽»¨Undergraduate Research Symposium Information Sessions:ÌýThese information sessions are designed to introduce curious students to the Symposium. The sessions go over the design of Symposium, the types of presentations, and core application information for a successful submission.ÌýThe dates are Jan. 14 (in-person) and Jan. 20 (virtual), 2026. Learn more and register here.
  • 91̽»¨Undergraduate Research Symposium Abstract Writing Workshop:ÌýThis workshop, led by senior undergraduate researchers / leaders, is a come-and-go event where students can bring in their planned submission abstract and receive feedback and tips to make a great abstract.ÌýThe date is Tue., Jan. 27 (in-person).
  • Poster and Oral Presentations + Communication:ÌýThis workshop is designed to provide students presenting posters or oral presentations with tips, resources, and guidance for creating a successful poster/powerpoint. In addition, we explore considerations for great communcation.ÌýDates are to be announced. .

Day-of (May 15, 2026)

May 15, 2026, is a celebration of not only undergraduate research, but undergraduate researchers and their contributions and achievements in curiosity and creativity. Use the below assets to share and invite others to share in on this amazing occasion! Be sure to tag @UWUndergraduateResearch and use #HuskyResearch!

General communication guidelines

Event

  • The event should be referred to as theÌý 91̽»¨Undergraduate Research Symposium for general, public, and first-time use.
    • You may refer to the 2026 event as the 29th Annual 91̽»¨Undergraduate Research Symposium or the 2026 91̽»¨Undergraduate Research Symposium for general, public, first-time use.
    • DO NOT refer to the event as abbreviated (e.g. “URS”, “2026 URS”).
  • The eventÌý³¾²¹²âÌýbe referred to as theÌýUndergraduate Research Symposium, 29th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium,Ìýor the 2026 Undergraduate Research SymposiumÌýwithin UW-only or clear UW-targeted communication.
  • The event should be referred to asÌýthe Symposium for subsequent use.
    • DO NOT refer to the event as abbreviated (e.g. “URS”).
  • The College of Engineering partnership should be referred to as theÌý 91̽»¨Undergraduate Research Symposium College of Engineering Session.
  • The various types of presentations (poster, oral, visual arts and design, performing arts) are consideredÌýsessions.
    • DO NOTÌýrefer to the performing arts session as “performances”, “performance session”, or “showcase.”
    • DO NOTÌýrefer to the visual arts and design session as “gallery”, “exhibits”, or “showcase.”

Applying/Application

  • The one who submits the request to present is theÌý²õ³Ü²ú³¾¾±³Ù³Ù±ð°ùÌýandÌýpresenter.
  • Group members presenting alongside the submitter/presenter are consideredÌýco-presenters.
  • The primary approver of the student’s research abstract (and who provides oversight of the research project) is considered the primary mentor.
    • Subsequent mentors who may mentor or guide the student’s research but do not hold oversight of the research project are considered the secondary mentor. The presenter may have multiple.
  • The guidelines required to be met within the application statement are considered the abstract guidelines.
